Star Spangled Barbecue Burgers


4 slices bread
1/2 cup milk
1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
1 onion, small, minced
3 tablespoons canola oil
2 tablespoons low sodium Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup low sodium ketchup
1/2 cup water


Place the canola oil in a skillet over medium high heat. In a large mixing bowl mix the meat and the onion together well. Break up the bread into small pieces and place in a small mixing bowl. Pour the milk over the top of the bread and let it set until the bread is completely moistened. Add the moistened bread to the ground beef and mix together well. You can make the hamburger patties as large as your family likes. Add patties to the skillet and cook until just brown on both sides. Drain the patties and place them back into the skillet. Mix together the vinegar, honey, ketchup and water in a large bowl. When the patties have browned place the sauce over the patties in the skillet. Reduce the heat to medium low and cover the skillet with a tight lid. Continue cooking for 30 minutes or until burgers are as done as like.
You can make these burgers on the grill. Just grill the patties to your liking. Remove them from the grill. Heat the sauce on low temperature until heated through stirring often. Pour the sauce of the patties after you remove them from the grill.
